Following the Opening Ceremony, which will be held in the main auditorium of the Stockholmsmässan, delegates will be able to meet and mingle during our Welcome Reception. Drinks and light refreshments are included free of charge, but delegates are requested to register for this event by selecting the appropriate box on the registration form.

New Investigator Gathering, including ‘An audience with Josef Penninger’

Postdocs, PhD students and junior faculty staff are invited to gather together for an informal social evening which will take place during the Welcome Reception at the Stockholmsmässan. 

Light refreshments will be served in a relaxed and informal environment and you will have the opportunity to interact with other new investigators, as well as discuss with members of the ECTS New Investigator Committee ‘what the ECTS can do better for YOU?’

The session will end with the ‘An audience with Josef Penninger.’ Dr Penninger is the founding Scientific Director of the Institute of Molecular Biotechnology in Vienna and oversees all research activities at the institute. He is a Professor of Genetics at the University of Vienna, an Adjunct Full Professor of Immunology and Medical Biophysics at the University of Toronto, and holds a Honorary Professorship from the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. He worked for 13 years with Amgen Inc., the Ontario Cancer Institute, and the University of Toronto in Canada and relocated in 2003 to Vienna to head IMBA. Dr Penninger will speak openly about his life, career and research experience and answer any questions from the floor.

Scientific exchange and President’s address

The event will start at 20:15 and will include a dinner buffet, refreshments and entry to the Vasa museum.

Fee 250SEK (€ 30) - Please tick the box on the registration form; entrance is by ticket only.

This years’ scientific exchange will be held at the Vasa Museum, a must-see when visiting Stockholm. The museum holds the ship Vasa, which in the 17th century sank in the middle of Stockholm Harbour after sailing barely 1300 meters, and has been preserved and reconstructed in the museum.
