New Investigator Gathering - including ‘An audience with Josef Penninger’

Postdocs, PhD students and junior faculty staff are invited to gather together for an informal social evening which will take place during the Welcome Reception at the Stockholmsmässan.

Light refreshments will be served in a relaxed and informal environment and you will have the opportunity to interact with other new investigators, as well as discuss with members of the ECTS New Investigator Committee ‘what the ECTS can do better for YOU?’

The session will end with the ‘An audience with Josef Penninger.’ Dr Penninger is the founding Scientific Director of the Institute of Molecular Biotechnology in Vienna and oversees all research activities at the institute. He is a Professor of Genetics at the University of Vienna, an Adjunct Full Professor of Immunology and Medical Biophysics at the University of Toronto, and holds a Honorary Professorship from the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. He worked for 13 years with Amgen Inc., the Ontario Cancer Institute, and the University of Toronto in Canada and relocated in 2003 to Vienna to head IMBA. Dr Penninger will speak openly about his life, career and research experience and answer any questions from the floor.

No additional fee.

ECTS NEW INVESTIGATOR SEMINAR

This seminar intends to provide an open and informal forum for new investigators at the very early stage of their careers to listen to and question other new investigators presenting their work in a small-scale and none intimidating atmosphere.

The first part of the seminar will include a series of short oral poster presentations covering topics in the fields of basic, translational, and clinical bone biology, communicated by participating new investigators.  The ECTS New Investigator Committee will select the presentations by reviewing those abstracts that satisfy the following criteria for inclusion:

  • The applicant is the presenting author
  • The applicant is a student working towards PhD, MD, MD/PhD, DDS or early stage postdoc within three years of attaining PhD
  • The abstract is not selected for oral presentation within the main conference programme

These abstracts will be randomised and each one reviewed blind by at least three members of the ECTS New Investigator Committee; scoring will be independent from the primary reviewing process and will be based on the following criteria:

  • The scientific merit of the abstract
  • Suitable sample size
  • Adherence to instructions
  • Originality of work
  • Overall interest and educational value to new investigators

Following the oral presentations, light refreshment will be served and delegates will have the opportunity to network, make new contacts and chat with fellow colleagues.

Fee – 83SEK(€ 10)

Please tick the box on the registration form, entrance by ticket only.

  • make the most of spare time by writing for 10 minutes a day
  • use evidence-based writing to solve disputes with others
  • apply simple marketing techniques to increase the chances of a paper being looked at favourably

No additional fee.
